**Please note - The School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children has established nutritional guidelines that the school lunch program must meet to qualify for commodity foods and financial assistance. Unfortunately our ala carte menu does not meet those government requirements). We will continue to offer ala carte, but we will not be offering items such as Friday pizza on a regular basis.
Traditional Food-Based Menu Planning - minimum requirements by food component and age/grade group for school-age (Grades K-12) students:
The FIVE required food items for a daily lunch are:
- One serving of meat/meat alternate.
- One serving of grains/breads.
- Two servings of Vegetables (must be two different vegetables), or two servings of Fruits (must be two different fruits, or one of each). At least two different fruits and/or vegetables must be offered with every lunch.
- One serving of milk.
The meal pattern shows the minimum number of servings and portion sizes for each of the required food components for lunches planned with the traditional approach. Increased portion sizes and additional foods may be added when needed.
