Don Bosco School Counseling Department Rationale
The guidance department is designed to compliment our academic program and for the benefit of ALL students. The comprehensive program at Don Bosco is based on the model designed by the American School Counselor Association. The primary focus of the program includes, student academic development, student career development, and student personal/social development.
All students will participate in a developmentally appropriate standards based curriculum throughout their time in high school. This curriculum will include classroom lessons, small group discussions, parent presentations on a variety of topics, and collaborations with classroom teachers to teach guidance material that integrates with their subject. In addition to guidance curriculum, students at the Don Bosco High School in collaboration with the school counselor will benefit from Individual Student Planning. Examples of Individual Student Planning include: college selection, job shadowing, four year high school plans, senior exit surveys, test score review, career decision making, yearly course selection, interest inventories.
The guidance department coordinates the student registration process, including assistance in course selection and authorizing schedule changes. Some other services provided are: Preventative and crisis, individual and group counseling, consultation with faculty, staff, and parents. College financial aid information, scholarships, schedules, hosting representatives of schools and universities and the military, conducting exit interviews, scheduling and administering various tests such as: PSAT, PLAN, ITED, ASVAB and college entrance exams.
